The Hyundai HiBallast system is a cutting-edge Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries and supplied by Hyundai Welding Company (HWC). Engineered to meet IMO and USCG standards, this advanced system combines high-efficiency filtration, electrolysis, and neutralization to treat ballast water safely and effectively, helping vessels comply with global environmental regulations.
Core Features
- Filter + Electrolysis: Solid particles over 50 μm are removed through filtration, while disinfection is achieved via electrolysis using in-situ seawater to generate sodium hypochlorite.
- Side-Stream Electrolytic Disinfection: Approximately 1% of the total ballast flow is treated, maximizing energy efficiency without compromising performance.
- Automatic Filter Backflush: The filter performs automatic back-flushing when differential pressure exceeds set limits, to maintain consistent performance.
- Neutralization Unit: Ensures safe discharge by controlling oxidant levels, with automated dosing based on Total Residual Oxidant (TRO) monitoring.
- Real-Time TRO Sensors: Maintain optimal oxidant concentration (~8 mg/L) during ballasting operations.
- Energy-Efficient Design: Low power consumption with redundant components including pumps, blowers, and rectifiers to ensure reliability.
Compliance & Certification
- IMO Type Approval
- USCG Type Approval
- Class Type Approval
Benefits of the HiBallast System
